sub2srt - Convert subtitles from ".sub" to subviewer ".srt" format

sub2srt is a simple tool to convert 2 common subtitle formats (microdvd and subrip - both are known as ".sub") to subviewer ".srt" format.
This is the format ogmmerge accepts for multiplexing into ogm streams.

In Version 0.5.3 I added support for 2 variants of another subtitle format. (I called it "txtsub" for now since I don't know the real name.)
A brief description of all supported formats.

This is Beta Software!
Use it at your own risk! It works fine with several files I've got, but it may fail with your's.
It's a quick hack written without any docs about the file formats - I just had a look how the files look like.

What it does not:

It does not - and will never - convert DVD-subtitles or vobsub.

Installation:

Not necessary ;) - it's just a single perl-script.
But you may want to copy sub2srt to a directory that's in your $PATH - like /usr/local/bin or /usr/bin.

If you are running Gentoo, you'll find my ebuild in portage.

Run sub2srt --help to get more info.

I'm trying to convert the txtsub (obtained from TitleLab exports
as Quicktime text) into .srt, but sub2srt keeps saying it can't
recognize the format... (I'm using the 0.5.3. version on OS X
10.3.7).

How often do I need to say this?

If you have an .idx file then it's VOBSUB.
sub2srt does not and will not support this.

Sub files has Colors and tags like {c:xxxxxx} and in srt files aren't recognized like colors but like text... i hope you can fix that....

It's important what players & subtitlers support. And at least VSFilter (formerly known as (Direct)VobSub) DOES support <color>, <i> and <b> tags at least, if not other... (It's generally known that mplayer's subtitler sux.)
